Virginia State Baptist Deacons' Convention, Women's Auxiliary and Youth Department, Inc.
** Organized in 1947 **

HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT

The Virginia State Baptist Deacons’ Convention was organized May 30, 1947, in the Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia. Dr. C.S. McCall in his welcome on behalf of Richmond ministers stressed training. It is noteworthy that this has been throughout the years dominant to our plans and activities. Deacon James S. Christian, our First President, stated the purposes as fellowship, training, and building a Baptist home for the needy.

The Women’s Auxiliary was organized November 27, 1947, at Fourth Baptist Church, Richmond, Virginia. Its First President was Deaconess Verna W. Stevens.
